Changing Focus

Various life events and my own lack of focus have made me re-evaluate my writing goals for this year. For the moment, instead of focusing on several new stories, I'll be cleaning up some older stuff, while continuing to plot-out the others. I'm also re-evaluating my general priorities and I've decided, at least for the next few months, to concentrate more on multimedia. In relation to that, I'll shortly be opening an 'author services' section on Utility Fog Press.

Specifically, that means:

Artwork

• setting up portfollios for book and album covers, art exhibitions, and conventions
• I'll be attending Eastercon (Olympus 2012)in the near future, and plan to also attend Novacon. In addition, I hope to exhibit locally at the bi-annual regional showing put on by Treasure and Relish in Harrogate.
• I've recently produced a book cover for Sleeping Cat Books, and I'll be following that up with more artwork and potential covers.

Video Production

• Following on from a recent digital video production course at the Open University, I've produced four idents -- 15-20sec branding clips -- for Utility Fog Press.
• Recently, I've also made an ident for Sleeping Cat books. Check them out below, then check out the sites :)

Author Services
It's hard enough writing a good book but, as many independent authors find, a lot more work goes into learning how to publish it: copyediting, interior design, cover images. And then all the extras like web sites, promotional videos, etc. I'm currently working out the details for offering author services to indpendent authors. Services, at reasonable prices, that allow them to get on with writing, while I look after other details. Services I will offer are:

• Story critiquing (thrillers, sci-fi, fantasy only)
• Cover art
• Cover design (what happens after you have the cover art)
• Promotional videos
• Website design
• Website hosting
• For copyediting, I highly recommend Sleeping Cat Books (as may be obvious, I've worked with the editor there for several years now).

Despite all this, I am not giving up my interest in writing, only reevaluating the amount of time and attention it demands in my life. This blog will continue to be about writing, publishing, conventions, but I'll also be adding artwork, multimedia info and personal opinions, to make it a bit more rounded.
